Sometimes credit unions are exactly like some big banks in terms of insanity and legwork. I went to check my car loan balance yesterday as I wanted to update my chart. Instead I find my savings account was negative because a cable company (not mine) tried to take out $200 from the account

This isn’t the first time it’s happened. I talked about it last year on how banks and credit unions are not doing you a favor by giving back your money. I’m not expecting to make money with the little savings account, but I at least expect the money to stay there if I don’t touch it.

Basically I opened a savings account so I could qualify as a member and get a car loan. I haven’t used any of it. I called customer service today and explained the situation. After she confirmed what I found out, she said they’ll have to mail me paperwork, have me fill it out, mail it back to them, and THEN they’ll refund the fee.

I asked if they could do it over the phone, which they did the last two times, but to ‘guarentee this wo’t happen again’ I have to fill out the papers. *Sighs* I will be so happy when this car loan is done and I can close the account. The silver liniing is that the customer service woman was understanding and pleasant.

Have you had any horror stories this year with your bank or credit union? Did they eventually fix the problem.

Update @ 5PM The credit union contacted me & fixed the error on their side. No paperwork for me to fill or mail. Whew, one less thing to stress over. Not perfect, but much better than what they offered.
