Many of my friends aren’t totally comfortable with banking yet for one reason or another. Some folks remain with the same bank account forever and they never switch. Even when they get ripped off or treated poorly. This doesn’t make much sense to me.

Are your comfortable with banking?

There’s no need to be intimidated. Banking isn’t complex and it’s now easier than ever before. Most banks allow you to do your banking from your cell phone or laptop. You never even have to leave home to do banking if you don’t want to.

It also doesn’t matter if you have a lot of money or not. The bank isn’t expecting you to be rich. When I was younger, I was very self-consciousĀ of the fact that I didn’t have much money. I would feel ashamed whenever I deposited a check because my account would be around zero. Then I realized that how much money I have right now doesn’t matter and it shouldn’t matter. Banks don’t judge you. They serve you and hold your money for you.

What sort of offers should you look out for?

There are all sorts of cool offers to look out for. At the very least, you should be able to understand the fees. I was once charged a fee that I completely didn’t understand. It made no sense to me and it really bothered me. How could I leave my money in the hands of a company that I didn’t trust? I had to switch accounts because I feel that I deserve better for my finances.

When looking for investment products, you’re going to want the best fixed rate bonds available or products that offer you the best value for your money. You don’t want to find out that a buddy opened up an account down the street and found better offers. You want the best offers. You worked for your money and now it’s time for your money to work for you. The best rates are to be demanded. Don’t let them hold back on you.

What should you expect from your bank?

I’m always shocked in general when I hear of anyone telling me that they were treated poorly. If you have an issue and your bank doesn’t resolve it, then you need to switch! You should expect excellent customer service. These are the people that are handling your money.

I like to hear about when you guys receive good service from BM Savings or any bank that you have an account with. If you notice any issues with your account or your finances, it’s important that you notify your bank right away. It’s your money. You work hard for your money.

You should also expect to be warned of any changes to your account. A few weeks ago my account was hacked and the bank called me to inform me. They paused the account and ensured that my money was returned and that everything was safe. Security is key when it comes to storing your money somewhere.
